tricision and China Resources Biopharmaceutical Forge Strategic Partnership, Targeting the Clinical Value and Market Potential of mRNA Cancer Vaccines
Recently, Beijing tricision Biotech Co.,
Ltd. (tricision) and China Resources Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (China
Resources Biopharmaceutical) signed a strategic cooperation agreement to
jointly develop an mRNA vaccine for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme
(GBM). This partnership will accelerate tricision's clinical research and
commercialization process, while further advancing China Resources
Biopharmaceutical's portfolio positioning in central nervous system tumor
therapeutics and clinical strategy coordination, contributing to the integrated
development of the biopharmaceutical industry.
GBM is the most common primary malignant
tumor of the central nervous system, with extremely high malignancy earning it
the grim label of "the new king of cancers." Currently,
clinical treatment outcomes for GBM are limited, with low patient survival
rates and a median overall survival of only 13.5 months—making it one of the
most challenging conditions in neurosurgery, with an urgent need for more
effective solutions.
It is reported that tricision's mRNA-DC
vaccine for primary GBM—Survivin-Targeting DC Cell Injection—received
Clinical Trial Permission (CTP) from the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) on
January 10, 2023, becoming the first mRNA-DC therapeutic cancer vaccine
in China to receive clinical trial approval. Earlier exploratory clinical
studies showed that combining this mRNA-DC vaccine with anti-PD-1 and Poly I:C
resulted in progression-free survival exceeding 5 years in patients with Grade
IV GBM.
China Resources Biopharmaceutical has deep
industrial foundations, rich clinical resources, and strong market
capabilities. With a forward-looking strategy in mRNA nucleic acid vaccines,
the company is diversifying its pipeline through the introduction of novel mRNA
technology platforms, providing combination immunotherapy solutions for major
clinical needs including malignant tumors, benefiting more patients and
supporting the Healthy China strategy.
Mr. Liu Dong, CEO of tricision,
stated: "We greatly appreciate the strong recognition from China
Resources Biopharmaceutical. As a leading BioPharma with global influence,
China Resources Biopharmaceutical possesses extensive R&D, manufacturing,
and marketing resources in biologics. mRNA technology is advancing rapidly in
cancer, infectious diseases, and immunological disorders. tricision's platform
technologies and production systems are of great significance for meeting
China's innovation needs, production capacity demands, and clinical requirements
in mRNA nucleic acid drugs and Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT)—ensuring accessible
supply and advancing industrial chain development. As one of the earliest
Chinese companies to apply mRNA technology in solid tumor clinical research, we
have deep understanding and clear strategies in the scientific foundation,
technological innovation, and product development of mRNA. We hope that through
this strategic partnership with China Resources Biopharmaceutical, we can
further iterate and upgrade our technology platforms, empower industrial
economic development and global commercial positioning, and accelerate the
manufacturing translation and clinical application of mRNA drugs to advance the
industry."
Mr. Yin Huijun, CEO of China Resources
Biopharmaceutical, commented: "We are very optimistic about the
biotechnological innovation led by mRNA technology. As a new frontier in
disease treatment, mRNA therapy is one of the most promising directions in
biopharmaceutical development. tricision has a world-class scientific R&D
team and an exceptionally innovative R&D platform. Its core 'One Body, Two
Wings' platform technologies cover the key aspects of mRNA drug development,
organically combining capabilities to truly achieve platformization. As the
innovative biologics platform of the China Resources Pharmaceutical Group, we
are committed to strengthening our full-chain biologics capabilities—from
R&D and manufacturing to sales—continuously advancing modern production and
high-level R&D to meet unmet clinical needs. Through a combination of
independent R&D and external partnerships, we are enriching our product
pipeline, driving sustained technological transformation, and gradually
expanding our biopharmaceutical platform. Through this strategic partnership
with tricision, we aim to advance mRNA development for both parties."
About tricision
As one of the earliest biopharmaceutical
enterprises in China to engage in cellular immunotherapy and mRNA nucleic acid
drug technological innovation and product R&D, tricision upholds the
mission of "transforming cancer into a chronic, manageable
disease," adhering to the development philosophy of
"people-oriented, technology for good, innovation-driven, and
future-leading." The Company is committed to promoting innovative R&D,
manufacturing translation, and clinical application of mRNA and other nucleic
acid drugs, providing effective solutions for the prevention and treatment of
malignant tumors, infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders, and genetic
diseases.
tricision possesses three major technology
platforms—"One Body" (nucleic acid technology) and "Two
Wings" (LNP delivery and DC delivery) —with triVAC and C2 as
core patents. The Company has filed 46 invention patents related to mRNA
technologies, of which 22 have been granted. It has established an integrated in-house
R&D and production system and exceptional Chemistry, Manufacturing, and
Controls (CMC) translation capabilities, breaking through key industrial
technology bottlenecks and achieving in-house production of raw material
enzymes, plasmids, mRNA, and LNP. The Company supports R&D of multiple
products across two pipelines: therapeutic cancer vaccines and prophylactic
vaccines for infectious diseases.
